I apologize for the fat guy picture of me flexing, but I wanted to illustrate a point to you. You see, before I made a complete life change in my health, I use to yoyo my weight.
In the winter time I would pack on the pounds and the spring time I would diet very strict to be lean and fit for the summer. Hey after all, it is Michigan, it is not like we live in California, where it is sunny and warm all year long.
Anyway, year after-year, my weight would go up and down and I was very content. I even started identifying myself as the big guy. Kind of like “Big Toney”, everybody has known a big Toney in their life right?
Well, I realized that I was being hypocritical living this lifestyle, furthermore, by moving up and down with my weight, I was setting my own health up for a big train wreck in the future. I realized, that if I didn’t get control over my life, lose the weight and keep it off, I would most likely gain too much weight, lose all hope, and possibly die of a heart attack at a young adult life; and not be around to see my kids
grow, and witness them have children of their own.And I don’t know about you, but I am not cool with that!!!
I want to be around to be a fun grandpa, and a grandpa that can actually do stuff with their grand kids. Anyway, I got control over my health and took action. I got fit!!! I thought I was extremely fit when I came to VIP. I was very humbled by the assessment. I couldn’t do a sit up and barely held a plank for 20 seconds. I couldn’t do a pull up either. I couldn’t jump rope backwards and my forward jumps were pathetic!
I gave myself one year, and was pleasantly surprised after six months.

I have struggled with my weight for as long as I can remember. I have always been a very active person but no matter what, I was always heavy. Since high school, I have always had some kind of gym membership. No matter what I tried to do, the weight just kept piling on. In May , my weight was 337 pounds. I was wearing XXXXL shirts and up to a 54 inch waist in some pairs of pants. I knew that I had to make a change. That is when I discovered VIP Fitness.

VIP Fitness has been part of a life changing experience for me… Four and a half months ago, I told Mike Sartorius, I was going to lose over 100 pounds. I was already very motivated and strictly limiting my food and portions, but I knew I needed a lot of exercise to go along with that. At an overweight, sedentary age 59, I was afraid I would injure myself and derail my weight loss goal. I really wanted to do this, but I hate exercise and sweating and huffing and puffing.
After evaluating my very limited athletic ability, we set up a schedule that was easy for me to work with. Two days with Adam and one with Mike every week. VIP’s nutrition professional suggested some changes that helped me actually eat a little more, get more from my workouts and keep losing weight.

Before I started working out at VIP I felt helpless, tired, embarrassed and just uncomfortable in my own body. I had stopped caring and just let myself go. Because I was so overweight and embarrassed to be in public I did not have a life outside of work. I hated my life and needed to change.
It was June 2009 and my little sister was getting married. I could not enjoy any of the festivities because I knew everyone was looking at me and wondering what had happened. I was at the heaviest I had ever been and felt awful mentally and physically. That is when I started researching fitness facilities in the area.
I had my fitness evaluation with Jerry and was a little hesitant about signing up but couldn’t say no to his sales pitch. I am so thankful that I joined! We set some long term goals and at the time I truly did not think I would achieve them. I wanted to lose around 90lbs. As of today I have lost 72lbs and am at 13.99% body fat.
