WHITE LAKE HEALTH CLUBS SURGE IN POPULARITY

Last year, the number of health club memberships in America went up 10.8 percent to include 50.2 million members (up from 45.3 million in 2009). Much of the growth in White Lake health clubs, as well as health clubs nationwide, has been among women. A slight majority of the new health club members (57 percent) were women.

Women Join White Lake Health Clubs In Droves

A survey from the International Health, Racquet & Sportsclub Association also found that women visit health clubs less than male health club members. Men visit their clubs about 101.8 times per year, compared to women’s 93.4 times. For that reason, IHRSA recommends that White Lake health clubs develop programs that attract female exercisers.

There are a number of group exercises classes offered at White Lake health clubs that tend to attract twice as many women. For example, Pilates, Yoga, and Tai Chi are disproportionately taken by female fitness club members. Cardio machines, weights and resistance equipment are equally beloved by men and women, the study showed.

Young People Become New Members At White Lake Health Clubs Too

Young people ages 6-17 accounted for 10 percent of all members (but 18 percent of new members in 2010). Similarly, exercisers in the 18-to-34 age bracket made up 30 percent of existing members (and 34 percent of new members). The large onslaught of new baby boomer memberships may still be yet to come.

There Is Room For Growth At White Lake Health Clubs

The report added that there is great growth potential for health clubs that offer:

  • Squash (popularity up 52 percent)
  • Yoga (popularity up 42 percent)
  • High Impact Cardio (popularity up 35 percent)
  • Step Cardio Aerobics (popularity up 33 percent)
  • Treadmill Running (popularity up 31 percent)
  • Cardio Kickboxing (popularity up 26 percent), and
  • Group Stationary Cycling (popularity up 22 percent).

Aquatic swimming programs were among the top three activities of all age groups. Other popular activities at White Lake health clubs include: weight training, workout machines, and cycling. Since every health club is different in what is offered, it’s important for consumers who are shopping around to look and see what facilities offer all the sports, classes, and additional services they need to stay motivated and be ultimately successful.

Consider Fit Concepts White Lake health clubs if you’re looking for ample amenities, a friendly staff, sanitary machines, and great programming.
