One thing about White Lake bootcamps is that they’re downright addictive. I’ve never particularly liked working out before, but once I took my first fitness boot camp session, I was hooked! I left there sweating, panting, and feeling euphoric about myself. Any time I wanted to quit, the instructor was feeding me words of encouragement that made me push myself harder than I ever would have on my own. I met new people who shared my same passions and priorities. After just three sessions, I already felt stronger and more productive.
Experts are split over how long it takes to form a new habit, but some studies show it can be done in as little as 21 days. Most of the White Lake bootcamps meet for at least six weeks and twice a week. This is plenty of time to form a habit and commit to a healthier lifestyle. The accountability and structure of boot camp sessions adds more motivation to people (such as myself) who found it hard to adhere to a routine.
You may be wondering how to keep up your enthusiasm. After all, it’s easy to get started at the gym, but hard to keep it going. The average person starts a gym membership in December or January and wraps up by March when they realize they are paying for something they never use. Bootcamps are just one strategy in the arsenal to keep me motivated and focused.
Here are some tips my instructors at White Lake bootcamps have taught me:
- Take small steps to accomplish your goals and remember how good you feel when you achieve them.
- Reward yourself. For instance, if you stick with your bootcamp sessions, then buy yourself new workout clothes or a new pair of sneakers.
- On your off-days, be sure you get out and walk to keep that flexibility in your schedule for fitness.
- If time is an issue, schedule 15 minutes at lunch and 15 minutes after dinner to walk.
- Stay positive! Think about looking and feeling great.
- Enlist a friend or family member to workout with you.
- Hire a personal trainer to motivate and inspire you.
- Choose to do fun activities that you really enjoy.
- Write your exercise days and times in your agenda, so you’ll be more likely to go!
- If possible, roll out of bed and into your workout clothes. It’ll be harder to back down once you’re “dressed for success!”
