Recently, ABC News ran a story – not about Lake Orion gyms, mind you — but about the Congressional House and Senate gyms that are subsidized by taxpayers. These gyms, the news agency says, are totally shrouded in secrecy in terms of their budgets, their locations and what’s inside. Through the grapevine, we hear there are flat-screen TVs, workout machines and swimming pool. Big deal! What Lake Orion gyms don’t have that?
No one really knows how much taxpayers shell out, but the senators are charged $40 a month in membership fees, which is comparable to most high-end Lake Orion gyms. That covers the replacement of broken equipment anyway. If the way the gym is paid for is perfectly legitimate, then they should be “willing to open their books,” says Steve Ellis of Taxpayers for Common Sense.
At Lake Orion gyms, plenty of hard work gets done… but not the sort of “hard work” that takes place at congressional gyms! Rep. Eric Massa is quoted as saying, “I’m sitting there showering, naked as a jaybird, and here comes Rahm Emanuel, not even with a towel wrapped around his tush, poking his finger in my chest, yelling at me because I wasn’t going to vote for the president’s budget!”
Yet, other people – who have never been inside the congressional gyms – maintain that there must be more than meets the eye with regard to the congressional gyms and wellness center. “You get the feeling like they just don’t get what’s going on out there in the real world when they have all these perks at their fingertips,” Citizens Against Government Waste spokeswoman Leslie Paige told ABC News. “The gyms and the hair care and all the parking facilities that they have … they’re really living a different life than the average American.” Yet, one can be rest-assured that the people who frequent Lake Orion gyms are living “a different life than the average American” too!
Only two US states have less than 20 percent obesity these days. Our “fast food nation” is more concerned about cheap and convenient dinners than longevity. Perhaps that’s why life expectancy has decreased in 702 counties for women and 251 counties for men over the last few years. More and more Americans are living sedentary lives and falling below the 150 hours of weekly exercise recommended by the Centers for Disease Control. Life at Lake Orion gyms is a whole other world!
It’s no secret: people who attend Lake Orion gyms have a better quality of life than those who do not. Members need not work in Congress or arrange high profile meet-and-greets in the locker rooms to achieve their fitness goals. Lake Orion gyms are open to everyone who wants to place greater emphasis on healthy eating, exercising and living.
